Moqueca Baiana (Brazilian Seafood Stew)

Moqueca Baiana is a vibrant seafood stew from Brazil, made with coconut milk, palm oil, and fresh seafood. This rich, fragrant dish will transport you to the tropics.

Ingredients (Serves 4):

  • 1 lb white fish fillets (e.g., cod or snapper)
  • 1/2 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp palm oil (or coconut oil)
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • Lime juice, salt, and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Season fish and shrimp with lime juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Heat palm oil in a large pot and sauté onions, garlic, and bell peppers until soft.
  3. Add tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the coconut milk and bring to a simmer. Add fish and shrimp, cooking gently until done (8-10 minutes).
  5. Garnish with cilantro before serving.
